We had some time off a few weeks ago for half-term break so we jumped on a train and headed up to Scotland for a few days.
The trip from Kings Cross to Edinburgh was beautiful, passing through York, Newcastle and the lovely north English countryside. We scored a whole booth to ourselves as the people who reserved the other two seats didn't show up, we had a whole heap of snacks, games and our Kindles and iPads so the the trip up couldn't have been much better.
The first thing I noticed about Edinburgh was how cold it was. The second thing I noticed was Shannae noticing how cold it was. This was easily observable due to the violent shaking and the frequent comments along the lines of "it's so cold". We quickly headed off to our hotel in Haymarket where we could unpack and put on a few extra layers.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city, particularly the Old Town, with its narrow cobbled streets, numerous Gothic churches, quaint pubs and shopfronts all leading up to Edinburgh Castle, it feels like stepping into the sixteenth century.
The castle itself is an amazing piece of history and we spent the greater part of a day exploring its grounds. Having lunch in a cafe that was once the barracks was a highlight - not because of the overpriced and less-than-impressive food - but because of the killer view of Edinburgh that the castle's vantage point affords.
We found an even better view when we took the climb up to Arthur's Seat, just east of Edinburgh Old Town in Holyrood Park. While it's certainly not the tallest peak in Scotland and the climb is not overly strenuous, its proximity to central Edinburgh means that it offers one of the most spectacular views that I've ever seen.
Thanks heaps for reading, my apologies for the brief hiatus. Like and comment below.
Much love.
